VAD - Voice activity detection is an algorithm used in speech processing wherein the presence or absence of human speech is detected in regions of audio. Voice activity detection (VAD) may not only indicate the presence or absence of speech, but also other aspects of the speech, for example whether the speech is voiced, unvoiced or sustained. Voice activity detection is usually language independent. A VAD feature in VOIP can disable the silence packets and use the silent period to transmit some traffic other than voice.
